Filmmaker and director Srijit Mukherji is set to work with popular Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury in an upcoming film titled ‘Padatik’ that delves into the life and works of the legendary Bengali filmmaker Mrinal Sen. The cast is also supplemented by some of the biggest names in the bengali fim industry
The film, under the wing of Friends Communication is set to bring alive the life and legacy of the legendary filmmaker and features a star-studded cast. Chanchal Chowdhury plays the lead as Mrinal Sen along with Monami Ghosh as Geeta Sen. Korak Samanta plays a Young Mrinal Sen and bengali actor Samrat Chakrabarty will portray Kunal Sen.
The title of the film is inspired from Sen’s well-known 1974 movie of the same name, regarded to be a part of his Calcutta Trilogy and serves as an indicator of the deep-rooted cultural and social significance of Sen’s filmography.
Chanchal shares his thoughts on portraying the film legend and stated “One should have tremendous courage and qualifications to portray an icon like Mrinal Sen on the celluloid. I know my courage, qualifications and craftsmanship will face a stiff test in Padatik”. Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji sees the film as a portal into the life and struggles of Sen: “This film will shed light on his struggle, his eventful journey and his views on the fast-changing world”
Bollywood legend and veteran actor Amitabh Bacchan also conveyed his regards and sent his “good wishes” towards the film, wishing it every success

Mrinal Sen is known for his eclectic works that bend stereotypes and establish new and radical views of the society.Mrinal Sen never ceased exploring with his medium. In his later films, he made an effort to break away from the narrative form and used very thin story lines.Almost all of the major cinema festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Moscow, Karlovy Vary, Montreal, Chicago, and Cairo, have given Mrinal Sen honours for his work.
